St. Johns Fund Raising Event Raises £1,275!

. Lisa Dews, a member of the HCA team at St John’s Court, came up with the idea and the funding will now go towards helping the home develop our new project of developing our dementia suite to make it a calm and relaxing area for residents. Lisa recruited Gaz Evans and Christine Taylor who helped organise and fully supported the event. Everyone who attended the event at South Bromsgrove High School on Saturday (April 22) had a fantastic time. During the tournament, Lisa and Christine made food and refreshments available, and both sold raffle tickets throughout the day. Trophies were given out to the winners, and later on, the raffle was drawn at The Golden Lion, which held a barbecue for anyone who was still peckish. The medals and trophies were supplied by Bromsgrove and Redditch Trophies and the golden boot for the top scorer was donated and engraved by the Bromsgrove Cobbler. Laura Wilkes, from St John’s Court, said: “There were so many people who gave up their time to make this event the success it was – you know who you are so thank you from us all.” The event raised a staggering £1275.27, which will help the HCA in developing their new dementia suite project.....

St. Johns Prize Winning Garden

. The competition organised by care home owners Somerset Redstone Trust, tested care facilities' gardens across the facility on their appearance, colour and residents' involvement. St John's old rear garden was small and overshadowed, so staff took on the challenge of transforming the garden, based on requests from the home's elderly residents. The team installed a water feature, thanks to funding from a resident's family member Ann Green, and arranged plants, ornaments and lights to make the garden bright and colourful. Residents helped to paint the fence and bench pink and blue, and fish were added to the water feature, which will now be looked after by those at the home. An oriental area was also added, with figurines and bamboo, too add another focal point to the garden. St John's missed out on the competition's top spot by just one point, but judges were impressed by the overall improvement of the garden and awarded the home with £75 worth of garden vouchers. Care home manager Laura Wilkes said: "We have had a lovely time planning and working in the garden but most importantly, we now have a beautiful garden to enjoy, listening to the water fall to have out afternoon teas." ....
